One Horse Army again showed great reserves of stamina when following up a win at Navan last Saturday by landing the Early Bird For Easter Festival Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse.

The Padraig Roche-trained gelding was heavily supported last time from 20/1 into 5/1 but was much easier in the market on this occasion drifting out from 100/30 overnight to 17/2 at the off.

Aidan Kelly was again aboard the lightly raced eight-year-old who made progress to challenge early in the straight before heading Brandt at the last.

One Horse Army edged a bit left on the run-in which necessitated a stewards’ enquiry but the three-quarters of a length winning margin over Brandt was confirmed after the deliberations.

The pair pulled eight lengths clear of Baldur’s Gate with Danny The Fence completing the places in fourth.

Roche said, "It’s grand that he’s won again. He stays and he jumps. We’ll keep going with him now and find something similar if we can.

“He’s still a novice. We’ll see what the handicapper gives him now. He wants soft ground and a staying trip.”
