Jockey Michael O'Sullivan began the year in fine fashion when booting home a 109/1 double at Tramore that was brought up on Be Fierce (10/1) in the rated novice chase.

There was a power cut in Tramore so no pictures were available at the time of writing.

Be Fierce won by a length and a-half from 3/1 favourite Splashing Out. Gabriel Ranger rounded out the placings in third at 10/3.

O'Sullivan said: "I've ridden him twice before. I rode him the last day at Gowran on his first run over fences on the track. That was over two and a-half and it was probably a bit far for him.

"He jumps very well and I actually fancied him today, but my only concern was the ground. He travelled and jumped so well today, and it just got him home.

"He won his maiden hurdle here when Shane O'Callaghan gave him a great ride and it's great to get a winner for Ted (Walsh, trainer). I rode out my claim for Ted and he has been supportive, so I'm very grateful.

"It's been a brilliant start to the new year."

O'Sullivan enjoyed a clear-cut success on Embassy Gardens (9/1) in the featured Grade 3 chase on the card.
