Michael O’Callaghan is hopeful of a big run from Francis Meynell in the Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster this afternoon.
The son of Blue Point was purchased by O’Callaghan for 125,000 guineas at the Breeze Up Sale in Newmarket this spring but didn’t make his debut until successful at Navan just over a fortnight ago.
He made virtually all over five furlongs on that occasion and is being kept to the minimum trip for this Group 2 test.
“I was very impressed with him the first day especially on what he had done at home,” said O’Callaghan.
“He was good and professional and if he improves on that he should be there or thereabouts. The form of that race was good and I’m hopeful.
“It’s only a few weeks since his first run but he’s sharpened up and it should leave him a bit straighter too.
“He’s a good, straight-forward sort of horse and a fast five in England should suit him.”
Francis Meynell faces ten rivals including Big Evs who won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Molecomb at Goodwood before dropping away in the final furlong last time against older horses in the Nunthorpe at York.
