O'Brien registers his first racecourse double Midleton native Paul Townend teamed up with one of his local trainers, Terence O'Brien, to credit the Carrigtwohill handler with his first double (at odds of 62/1) on the racecourse proper through the wins of Carhue and Viaduct Joey at Clonmel. Eight to one chance Viaduct Joey (first-time cheek-pieces) got the better of a three way tussle with Mazuri Cowboy and favourite Clashnabrook (jumped a bit left at the last) in the latter stages. In the end the victorious Traditionally gelding asserted near the finish to triumph by two and a quarter lengths in the Bishop Auckland Theatre Novice Handicap Chase. O'Brien revealed: "His hurdles form was good – going back to his maiden win at Listowel. "He had stomach ulcers and fell apart completely. He didn't want to know. "We nursed him back gently and he might now go for the novice handicap final at Navan over three miles next month." (TW & EM)
