Noir gives Cromwell and Carroll a double Gavin Cromwell and Gary Carroll combined for a double at Dundalk this afternoon when Pepper Noir landed the finale on the card. The grey was settled behind the leaders in the mile-and-a-half handicap before coming to challenge passing the two pole. She hit the front a furlong-and-a-half from home and stayed on well in the closing stages to hold the surge of Turdor Manor by half-a-length. The 5/1 winner (12/1 this morning) was trying the trip for the first time having been third over a mile at the venue earlier in the month. Carroll said: "We thought after the last time over a mile, when she was third, she was crying out for the mile and a-quarter. "This was a mile and a-half and it was just the next race that suited her. "We weren't too worried about the trip - it was always an unknown, a little worry. "She enjoyed going the trip, she travelled better and actually picked up well. "I think we will be sticking to this trip and hopefully there is more to come." Cromwell and Carroll had also been on the mark with Clarita earlier on the card. (Quotes by Michael Graham)
