Newcomer wins bumper for Crawford brothers Major Robinson made a winning debut for the Crawford brothers at Thurles today as the Jamie Codd partnered gelding landed the concluding www.thurlesraces.ie in good style. Major Robinson, a son of Kalanisi, is from the family of Champion Hurdler winning siblings Morley Street and Granville Again and today showed distinct signs of greeness before eventually recording a three parts of a length win over Mahons Glory. Third-placed Light Brigade, 9/4 favoruite, failed to keep tabs with the leaders rounding the home turn before running on strongly in the closing stages and finished a further three parts of a length away in third. Larne, Co Antrim based winning trainer Stuart Crawford wasn't present while winning owner and brother Steven Crawford was on lead-up duty. Following the race jockey Codd reported “it's lovely for Steven; he rang me before to go to Sedgefield one day and the horse won. He rang me about this lad during the week and I was delighted to ride him for him. “He's not too bad I'd say. He's a very very nice horse, he's done his job and he was plenty green enough down the straight. He'll improve nicely from that as well. “Steven has done a great job with him.” Quotes from Gary Carson
