Tom Mullins completed a good day's work at Leopardstown today, completing a double in the concluding Killiney (Pro/Am) Bumper with Charbel which made an impressive winning debut under the trainer's nephew Patrick Mullins.
The Flat bred son of Iffraaj quickened up well in the closing stages for a four lengths win over fellow newcomer Coeur Joyeux with the only previous winner in the race Cape City Boy nicely held in third.
After his bumper win Mullins, whose Sir Scorpion earlier led home a 1-2 for him in a handicap hurdle, stated "he's a nice big horse and could go jumping or on the Flat next. He has loads of ability and did an exceptional bit of work during the week; I told a few people to back him and couldn't believe he was still 6/1.
"Anyone who has ridden him says he wants good ground but we'll find out as we go along. He could run in the Champion Bumper at Punchestown next."
