The Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden provided a dream result for the Power family and trainer Eddie Lynam as Jon Riggens led home a 1-2 for connections at the Curragh.
Jon Riggens only recently joined the Garretstown House yard after three promising runs for Sean Hennessy earlier this season and justified good support in this five-furlong event.
The 9/4 favourite, owned by a Syndicate comprising David Power and his sons Willie and Paddy plus former Director of Operations at Paddy Power Johnny Hartnett, found a gap over a furlong out and quickened up in impressive fashion for Shane Crosse.
The son of Requinto had a length and a quarter to spare over stablemate Heavenly Power owned and bred by David’s wife Sabina, with Notoriously Risky a length further away in third.
Lynam said, “It’s good to get him started and I hadn’t done a lot with him. It’s a poisoned chalice as the man who had him before done a great job with him. You are always worried that they will go backwards.
“Shane said he’s the same horse and he did it well. We’ll have a look at handicaps now.
“The other horse ran well and looks like he might win his maiden too.”
