Sea Singer (9/1) continued trainer Tom Mullins' good flat record at Leopardstown today, narrowly landing the Irish EBF Auction Series Race under jockey Ben Coen.
The son of Sea The Moon was strongly pressed by runner-up Port Louis through the final furlong but battled well to prevail by a nose.
The Dublin venue has, numbers-wise, been Mullins' most successful racecourse as a flat trainer, bagging the 2019 Group 3 Killavullan Stakes, and today reported “most people copped the nice little debut run Sea Singer had in the Curragh first time out.
“It was probably a furlong too sharp for him first-time-out but the Curragh is always a grand place to go, it's a nice track to educate one. I was waiting for a nice seven furlongs and this was a race he should be in.
“He was bought at the sales so he was in with his own (auction series) company. He's done really well since the last day, especially in the last week and did a great bit of work last Friday with Ben. We were confident of a good run.
“He's a tough colt and he toughed it out well there on only his second run. He got there too early but most jockeys say that anyway.
“There's no doubt he is for sale, he was bought for that reason. Some lads pinhook to go back as yearlings but I have to race them to sell them.”
