Trainer John Murphy completed a double when Top Spin landed the Kingdom Gold Cup Handicap under a fine ride by Sam James.
James sent the 25/1 shot to the front over a furlong out and kept on well to hold off the late efforts of Alpine Eagle and Fran Berry close home.
A delighted Murphy reported: “That was great, he’s very progressive. Everything that could go wrong at Ascot did.”
“He’s tough and improving every month, he has a beautiful attitude and travels well and quickens well off the pace.”
“He got a good ride tonight and we’ve no plans for him. Danny [Grant] thought he’d progress into a Listed or Group 3 type horse. "
"He’s a big horse and Danny said not to race him too often.”
Murphy was on the mark earlier when Praise Be took the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden in the hands of Leigh Roche.
