Murphy's Sounds defies top-weight on handicap debut In the Epsom Oaks winning colours of Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez, Daniel Redmond took the concluding Opportunity To Win In The Glasshouse Hotel After Ladies Day Tomorrow Handicap on the John Murphy-trained Marlborough Sounds (11/1) at Sligo. Qualify scored under Colm O'Donoghue in these red and yellow silks at odds of 50/1 at Epsom in 2015, and though Marlborough Sounds is operating at a modest level he's only a three-year-old and he may be capable of progressing. With cheek-pieces on for his first handicap, Marlborough Sounds (edged slightly right over a furlong out) got the better of Rocky Blue (slightly impeded over a furlong out) by a neck. "He'd a good run in Cork where he was beaten by some good horses, and he'll sharpen up from that. He took a bit of a blow, and dropping him back in trip would suit him," said Redmond. "The cheek-pieces were a help but I wouldn't be in a rush to bring him back here. A big galloping track would suit him but he's a nice horse." (AM & EM)
