Mullins hogs outside lane for victory on Lac Kivu Danny Mullins' audacious plan to race on the extreme outer on Lac Kivu in the FBD insurance Hurdle worked out nicely for the jockey as the gelding led home a 1-2 for winning trainer Willie Mullins. Five of the six runners raced in orthodox fashion on the inside in the two miles contest but jockey Mullins elected to bring Lac Kivu to the outside in search of a sounder surface. Lacu Kivu chartered a wider course throughout but in the end the plan worked out as he moved past stablemate Whiskey Sour, under Aubrey McMahon, on the run-in before scoring a length win at the line. "I rang Willie and asked could I try something different and he said 'work away' once myself and Patrick (Mullins) were happy and go out and try it. If it works you're a genius and if it doesn't you're a fool - genius today! "It's a little better on the outside and was out on my own with nobody upsetting me! "He was very good the first day and obviously the problem in Galway was why he had such a layoff and hopefully he can come back to what he promised."
