After winning the fifth on Danse Away Danny Mullins doubled his tally on Betterthanalright in the concluding Racing Again March 29th Handicap Chase.
Without a win since December of 2014, and not seen since last June, Betterthanalright was unsurprisingly sent off a 14/1 chance for this two mile seven furlong contest.
However, the Liam Casey trained twelve-year-old belied those odds, as he raced prominently throughout, keeping on best under pressure from two out, going on to beat Whats In It For Me by a length and a quarter.
The runner-up was returned a 4/1 joint-favourite under Phillip Enright for Robert Tyner, while the well-backed Enduring Love (25s to 14s on-course) was another four lengths back in third for James O'Sullivan and Philip Rothwell. Bandon Bridge was the other joint-favourite, and he finished a disappointing seventh with Sean Flanagan in the saddle for Jimmy Mangan.
Mullins said afterwards: "It was a good performance and I got to dictate from the front. He's a tough horse.
"Liam has done a fair job. It is not easy for a small trainer to get them right off such a lay-off. I rode him in Wexford last summer and Liam felt he needed a break at the time. He's brought him back here spot on, and it's a fair training performance."
STEWARDS REPORT
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Bandon Bridge, trained by James Joseph Mangan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
