Mullins doubles up with Westport in bumper Willie Mullins completed a 6/1 double on the day as Westport Lady readily justified favouritism in the Holycross INH Flat Race at Thurles. Patrick Mullins elected to set the pace in this five-runner event, with Faugheen’s half-brother Osmotic (stone bruise) a notable absentee. The writing was on the wall as the evens favourite travelled ominously well early in the straight, and she soon took control. The French-bred mare stayed on strongly for a very easy 15 lengths verdict over That’s My Dubai, with Rippon Lodge another three quarters of a length back in third. The Closutton trainer was earlier on the mark with Irish Lass in the rated novice hurdle. Patrick Mullins said, "We didn't think we'd have to wait this long to win a bumper and I'm not sure what happened her the last day but we think she is a mare with a bit of ability. "She reared over and broke her wither last year but it doesn't seem to have left any ill affects. "I imagine she'll go jumping now and it's great to get a win for a new owner Cathal Hughes, from Westport. He has a big business (safety clothing and workwear manufacturer Portwest) in Mayo and she is his first horse with us. "She has a fantastic pedigree and she'll make a nice broodmare in time too."
