Stall one was used to great effect by Mr Good Guy who made all to win the five furlong maiden in Dundalk.

Eddie Lynam’s charge went off 3/1 second best after coming in third on his last couple of spins around the polytrack.

Pat Smullen was on board the colt for the first time this evening and quickly moved him to the head of affairs as the gates opened. Inside the last quarter of a mile the 4/7 favourite Kernoff and Shane Foley ranged up on the outside, but couldn’t wear down Mr Good Guy and was beaten a length at the finish.

Lynam also snared third-placed money with Walk Right Back (25/1) who was three lengths in arrears of the winner, with Niall McCullagh up.

“He was a good buy for three thousand although on ratings he was 10lb wrong with the second horse,” Eddie Lynam said.

“The way the programme is there is no race left for him so he goes on his holidays now.

“Walk Right Back did another lap of the track. He’s run here twice and he has done that twice.”

The winner saw plenty of money this morning from 5/1 to 3/1. Mick Halford's 83-rated Kernoff was runner-up here for the third time in-a-row.
