The 2m handicap for horses rated 47-65 went to the lightly-weighted Movie King (13/2 into 9/2 before the off).
The son of Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom was handy throughout and, despite racing lazily in the straight, did just enough for jockey Robbie Colgan to defeat Ballymist and Forge Road by half a length and the same.
Owner John Breslin was on hand to witness a first victory for his five-year-old who had been second over course and distance in January.
Winning trainer Tony Martin said: "Great to get him off the mark. He is what he is and it is grand he got one. He stays and he battled away well.
"It is a long summer and he'll go for staying handicaps on the turf and he may go over hurdles."
