Mother Vincent follows up to complete 220/1 Bolger double Mother Vincent followed up her win under Luke McAteer at Naas 48 hours ago by carrying a 6lb penalty to victory in the Ivory Handicap at the Curragh. McAteer was again in the saddle although the win didn’t appear likely as he was hard at work over two furlongs out. However, the Vocalised filly responded generously inside the final furlong and finished strongly to score by a length and a half at odds of 11/2. Eastern Racer couldn’t match Mother Vincent’s finishing burst, while Grace To Grace was a further three quarters of a length away in third with the winner’s stablemate Vocatus in fourth. This continued a good recent run for Jim Bolger, who sent out three winners at Naas on Sunday, and the Coolcullen maestro was completing a 220/1 double this afternoon after Ten Year Ticket won at 33/1 on debut in the opener. Bolger said, “She's named after a great Wexford woman who was my great grand aunt. She sold a site for the Mater Hospital who have named a wing after her, and she went on to open 17 schools in Australia. This filly has as much courage as she had. “I might leave it at that for this year with her now.” (GC & AM)
