Mossey flops as Harrington & Treacy double up Jessica Harrington & Tommy Treacy combined to record a double at Cork today as they took the www.mallow.ie Hurdle with Gimli's Rock having earlier won the opening race with Run 'N' Jump. With the defection of Roving Lad (ground) just three went to post for the three mile contest with Mossey Joe sent off the 1/3 favourite on his first run back since falling at the Punchestown Festival in April. The Declan McNamara trained gelding was keen throughout, as is usually the case, and attempted to make all under Barry Geraghty. As they approached the straight everything was going according to plan however he was soon pushed along approaching the second last and was overtaken with ease by the winner. He was soon eased down and finished a long way last as Gimli's Rock kept on best to score by five lengths at 11/2 from Won In The Dark in second under Davy Russell for Sabrina Harty at 5/1. Winning rider Tommy Treacy said afterwards: "That is my first two winners since I got married on June 29th. "I'll have to keep this up now as I've got a family to feed!" The winning 6yo son of Rock Of Gibraltar, who is owned by Geoffrey Ruddock, is as versatile as they come and he was recording his tenth career victory today. He has three flat successes to his name, a chase win and now six hurdle victories including a Grade 2 success over timber which came at Down Royal in November of 2010. After the race Barry Geraghty reported to the Stewards that his mount, Mossey Joe, travelled well but emptied in the closing stages on the ground on his first run after a break. However he was found to be post race normal when examined by the vet. (On-course reporting by Thomas Weekes)
