Pass The Hat won a battle with Nearly Nama’d to win a valuable pot for Arthur Moore and David Casey in the Grade C At The Races Handicap Chase at Killarney.
The seven-year-old quietly crept into the race after being in rear. He looked a big threat on the run to the last and was on terms with Nearly Nama’d upon jumping that obstacle. He stayed on best on the run-in to win by two lengths at 20/1 under David Casey.
Nearly Nama’d had assumed the lead before the third last and was just run out of it after the last. He was returned in second at 7/1. Behemoth (16/1) got third-placed money.
Arthur Moore said: “His chase form has been very solid. He got messed around a bit the other day in Galway and it didn’t work out for him. That wasn’t his true run and that proved it.
“He might sneak into the Kerry National if he gets seven or eight pounds for that. That’s a nice pot to keep us going for a while. He wouldn’t want it too soft. He’ll come back for a hurdle in the autumn as he looks on a good mark.”
