The Henry De Bromhead trained Sadler's Risk landed an incident-packed Ladbrokes Munster National Handicap Chase under Andrew Lynch for owner Roger Brookhouse.
The drama started at the fourth when the 9/2 favourite Perfect Promise fell and brought down Pass The Hat (20/1). Shanpallas (7/1), who won this race last year, was badly hampered in the melee and he unseated Barry Geraghty.
Sadler's Risk avoided the carnage and raced mainly in third as Rogue Angel and Opening Batsman took each other on in front.
The winner blundered six out and made a bad mistake four from home as he came off the bridle.
He was back on the bridle approaching the straight and travelled best approaching the second last.
He wasn't fluent there and was soon challenged by Carriganog and Spring Heeled
Carriganog unseated at the last leaving Sadler's Risk and Spring Heeled to battle it out on the run-in, with the former getting on top close home, going on to win by a length and a half at the odds of 14/1.
Spring Heeled had to settle for second under Brian O'Connell for Jim Culloty at 16/1 while Jacksonslady (20/1) was a further two and three parts back in third under Mark Walsh for Philip Dempsey. The Paparrazi Kid (9/1) completed the placings a further seven lengths back in fourth under David Mullins for his uncle Willie.
Henry De Bromhead said afterwards: "I thought the mistakes he made would cost him and while he was cantering coming down the hill, he made another mistake at the second last but winged the last.
"His run in the Galway Plate was a great run (third) and the key is to keep him freshened up so we backed off him after Galway and pin-pointed this with him.
"Andrew gave him a super ride but you deserve it when you work as he does and it's also my first win in the race.
"He's got a lot of class and these are tough races so my gut feeling is to give him a break but I'll speak to Roger (Brookhouse) before making plans. His runs at Cheltenham are shocking and he really only goes right-handed.
"I think he's done enough this side of Christmas.
"I've two horses in training for Roger at the moment but he does all his own pre-training and hopefully there are some more to come."

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Shanpallas, trained by C.Byrnes, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was badly hampered and was unseated.
M.P. Fogarty, rider of The Job Is Right (GB) trained by Michael Hourigan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was badly hampered and was pulled up.
