Lucky Mistake had to survive an objection by the second placed rider before being confirmed as the winner of the apprentice race at Gowran Park.
The Adrian Keatley-trained gelding drifted left under pressure from a furlong-and-a-half out and runner-up Roibeard came across with him to the rail inside the final furlong.
The pair came close in the closing stages as Lucky Mistake prevailed by half a length at the line.
After the stewards had a look at the finish the result remained unaltered.
“I don't have him that long, he's only with me a couple of months. He came from France in rag old order but we got a bit of grub into him and got him looking well,” said Keatley.
“He's good and fresh in himself at the moment and he's in again at Galway on Tuesday. If he's okay he'll go again.
“He loves the ground and is a typical Fast Company. Richard Fahey had him as a two-year-old and his best form was on good to soft over there.
“We'll get another bit of grub into him and sure he might jump a hurdle!”
