Miramis snares Listed prize under Browne McMonagle 87-rated mare Miramis, twice a winner for Sheila Lavery, gained a black-type success in the ArthurGuinness Irish EBF Corrib (Fillies) Stakes. The 12/1 chance was settled behind the leaders by Dylan Browne McMonagle and went out after Keep In Touch on the turn into the straight. The pair had a good tussle in the final furlong with Joseph O'Brien's charge coming out on top by a neck. O'Brien was at Goodwood where his Above The Curve was beaten half-a-length in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes minutes earlier. Browne McMonagle said: "She is a lovely straightforward filly, she jumped well from the gates, got a lovely position and relaxed well. I was a winner from a long way out and was very confident that she would picked up once I got out. "The main aim today was to get blacktype and it was a career best today." The winning rider added on RTE: "I travelled around really well, we didn't go mad, I was in the perfect position, Gary (on Pandora Lovegood) just dropped away lovely off the bend and I was always the winner, it was just a matter of going and pressing the button. She quickened up good and got through the line well. "She just gets a little bit hot sometimes before her races but as soon as you get up on her and go about your business, she's as good as gold. The last day in the Curragh it was plenty quick for her, I think, and this slower ground today shows the best of her. "I was doing boxing when I was younger, when I was in primary school. It was kind of more for the fitness, but I started fighting and had a bit of luck for a couple of years so I stuck at it. "But there was always really going to be one goal at the end of it and, once I had to sacrifice one for the other, it's a sport where you have to be all in or you're as well not in it at all, so it was always going to be the racing. It definitely stood to me, helped my weight and kept me fit the whole way through, but on days like this it was an easy decision! "Dad is a carpenter, does kitchens and all the rest and Mum looks after kids and works in a factory. They've been unbelievable to me from the get-go, they've supported me the whole way through and all my family has done the same. "They're here for the week and they're loving it, they're having good old fun so I'm delighted to get another winner on the board at a big festival like this." Quotes from Tom Weekes
