British trainer Karl Burke was rewarded for his enterprising raid on the
floodlit meeting at Dundalk as Electric Warrior ran out an ultra-game winner
of the feature Carlsberg Handicap.
The Bold Fact gelding - sent off the 5-2 favourite - shot clear inside the
two-furlong marker for Fergus Sweeney and showed plenty of guts to pull out
more and hold the closing Baynes Cross by half a length.
Billyford put himself in line for a possible Classic bid when recording a
comfortable success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race over a mile.
Always hacking under Fran Berry, the three-year-old cruised into the
straight and his rider did not have to break sweat in getting him home by a
length and three-quarters from Dirar at rewarding odds of 5-2.
Trainer Liam Roche said his charge had improved markedly and could go for a
trial at Leopardstown next month. He is still in both the Italian and French
2000 Guineas.
High Court Drama (4-1) was given a confident ride by Willie Supple to claim
the seven-furlong Guinness (C & G) Maiden in which Electric Warrior's
trainer Burke had hinted he meant business on the night as his Cathedral
Walk ran a creditable third.
Eddie Lynam's Chelsy (5-1) has the scope to progress again after foiling
warm favourite Almass in the opening Smirnoff Fillies Maiden, while in the
Bailey's Apprentice Handicap, Johnny Fahy again looked a young rider with a
future in steering Zaharath Al Bustan back to winning ways.
The 9-1 winner will return to this track in three weeks time according to
trainer Eamon Delany, who was quick to praise Fahy's ride.
In the Bushmill's Handicap, a gamble on Veidhleadoir went astray as she was
pulled up, leaving Dermot Weld's No Strings (7-4) to come out just the
better in a duel with Fiery Lad.
