Fran Berry picked up a two days suspension for careless riding at Downpatrick on Saturday aboard the heavily backed Handsome Bop, who filled the runner-up spot behind Penzita in the Murphy Jewellers Maiden.
The stewards left the placings unaltered after enquiring into two incidents on the downhill approach to the straight. However in the second case, which involved all bar the Gerry Stack-trained winner among the five runner field, Berry was adjudged to have ridden carelessly. His suspension will take in June 11 and 12.
Herb Superb, a first winner for Summerhill trainer Peter Duffy and ridden by his daughter Diane (21), finished strongly up the final hill to land the Frank Fitzsimons Hunters Chase.
Golden Bar built up a sizeable lead by halfway in this three miles event, and was still 20 lengths clear approaching three out. However, Herb Superb steadily narrowed the advantage and, with Golden Bar visibly tiring after the last, Duffy's seven-time point-to-point winner swept past to score by 13 lengths.
Shane Donohoe, whose wife Samantha gave birth to a boy on Thursday, had further cause for celebration when Kariyadan took the Strangford Fuels Handicap. The half-brother to dual Derby winner Kahyasi led two furlongs out to beat Classic Lord by two lengths, and is likely to have a run over hurdles before being aimed at the Galway Festival.
Miskilette defied topweight in the mile and a half Downpatrick Handicap, wearing down Feelin' Looser inside the final furlong to score by three quarters of a length. Ger Keane's charge, who is in foal to Petorius, 'stays well and will go for a similar handicap'.
