Meade bags double at Punchestown

Noel Meade bounced back to form when saddling the first two winners at Punchestown on Wednesday.

The champion trainer had endured a barren run since New Year´s day and was a relieved man after the opening race victory of Clarnazar.

Paul Carberry had to be strong on the Shernazar gelding as he got the better of Fond Of A Drop by a neck after a battle on the run-in in the conditions hurdle.

"It´s great to get back winning again. It was starting to get me down a little bit lately," admitted Meade.

"This horse was really bouncing before. His last run was good enough and he was entitled to win.

"We´ll enter him for the Coral Cup and three miles is what he wants. We´ll see what way he´s handicapped for that."

The pair where back in the winners enclosure just over half an hour later when Jered ran out an impressive winner of the novice hurdle.

Carberry was at his confident best as the gelding cruised into contention turning for home and took it up on the run-in for a cosy length-and-three-quarters victory over Baltiman.

"That´s great," said Meade. "He jumped really well. I was a bit worried about the ground with him.

"I don´t know where I´ll go with him now. He´s in a few handicaps but we´ll see what happens."
