Trainer Andrew McNamara produced bargain buy The Armed Man ridden by his son Robbie, in fine shape to land a gamble in the concluding Blizzards Play July 24th INH Flat Race at Limerick this evening.
McNamara Jnr excelled on the gelding who needed all of the rider´s strength to eventually wear down Up To The Hilt for a length success, rewarding punters who backed the son of Snurge into 7/2 (from 6/1).
McNamara Snr, whose achievements as a trainer include a Cheltenham winner and Champion Hurdle and Aintree Grand National placings, later reported "I bought this gelding at Tattersalls Sales last November for just E3,000 and he is owned by a long time owner and friend Henry Lappin, solicitor. It appears money well spent now!"
He added "The Armed Man ran well on his debut at Ballinrobe but he possibly isn´t suited by racing right handed and we´ll probably go hurdling with him now."
