Declan McDonogh completed a quick double at Dundalk as Snapaurum recorded a decisive win on debut in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained gelding was well backed from 7/2 into 6/4 favourite and made smooth headway to challenge early in the straight.

The son of Ten Sovereigns drew clear inside the final furlong to beat Athlumney Warrior by three and a half lengths with Umala a further length and a half back in third.

McDonogh said, “He was very professional, popped the gates nicely and I had a nice smooth run.

“When I gave him the office, he galloped out very strong to the line.

“When I rode him last spring I thought he was going to be early and then he got a holdup but has come back and it’s great for John (Farrell, owner/breeder).

“I think that (mile) distance is ok for him at the moment.”

McDonogh was also on the mark half-an-hour earlier aboard Lyle The Crocodile (11/2).
