Declan McDonogh and Kevin Prendergast teamed up to land the opening two races at Tipperary today. Ejteyaaz (8/15) was a warm order in the opening juvenile maiden but had to work hard to grab victory.
He was ridden to challenge a furlong out and got to the front inside the final furlong. Andantino proved a tough customer, however, and pushed him all the way to the line, only going down by the narrowest of margins.
Des Cummins, travelling head lad to Prendergast, said: "He'll go for a winners of one and probably wouldn't have been in love with that ground." Cornakill completed the brace when taking the Knockanglass Stables Nursery.
The American-bred moved up to challenge two furlongs out and went on inside the final furlong to beat Cognomen by two lengths.
"She's a grand honest filly. We'll see if there is a race for her in Galway, she'll love the hill, " said Cummins afterwards.
