McConnell off the mark in new yard Blue Ridge Lane produced a 33/1 shock in the concluding conditions race at Dundalk to give trainer John McConnell his first winner since moving into his new yard. Gary Carroll covered his mount up in the early stages before making ground in the straight. He threw down a challenge at the furlong pole as four battled it out. The group flashed past the post together with Blue Ridge Lane just getting the narrowest of verdicts from Greenbelt Star. Alamanda was a head back in third while it was the same distance back to King Of Aran. McConnell has recently moved his string to Rockview Stables in Stamullen, which he described as a terrific facility with 40 acres and 45 boxes. "He came out of (Dermot) Weld's and obviously retains plenty of his ability," said McConnell of the winner. "He was entitled to win off his rating but not many gave him a chance. He stuck his neck out and is genuine enough. "He'll tip away at this. He wasn't a big fan of hurdles although he was placed in one. "It was a very good ride from Gary as he needs to be covered up."
