Maybe further enhanced her burgeoning reputation when hacking up in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, the feature race at the Curragh.
The two-year-old daughter of Galileo tanked along behind pacemaker Soon and when Joseph O’Brien asked her for an effort two furlongs out she pulled clear and won cosily by a length and a half from Fire Lily (8/1) and Wayne Lordan.
Kevin Prendergast’s La Collina (3/1) was three lengths further back in third.
Upon justifying 8/13 favouritism the filly became the fifth winning favourite in-a-row as bookmakers turned to look for some solace in the final two big-field handicaps on the card.
Aidan O’Brien, who secured a double for the afternoon, was effusive in his praise for Maybe. He said: “It’s great. We are delighted. Joseph rode her the last two times and knew what he wanted to do. Everything went lovely.
“She’s very uncomplicated. She goes her own pace and picks up when she wants. She has gears and everything went smoothly.
“We have the option of the French race next (Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp). Misty For Me went there last year and we’ll look at that. All the options are there; also the fillies mile at Ascot.
“She’s progressive and loves her racing. She doesn’t do much at home, she only canters because she is racing often.
“A filly of her class you would have to think about the 1,000 Guineas, but we’ll finish her two-year-old season first. It looked today like a mile would be no problem.”
For next year’s 1,000 Guineas she is 7/2 with Paddy Power and 5/1 with Ladbrokes. Paddy Power also have the star juvenile at 6/1 for the Oaks.
