Trainer Tony Martin has won three of the last six runnings of the Guinness Galway Hurdle with Thomas Edison (2014), Quick Jack a year later and last year with Tudor City.

He’s hopeful that the latter can score a repeat victory in Thursday’s prestigious contest.

Martin is happy with how preparations have gone for the 8-y-o gelding by Yeats.

“He ran on the Flat in Cork recently and we were very happy with him. Everything has gone well since, he seems in good from and hopefully we’ll go back to Galway on Thursday.

“11st 2lbs would be a concern, I’ll go through things with John Breslin (owner) and we’ll see should we claim off him.

“We’ll see what Robert Power’s options are, he rode him there last year. We’ll have a chat with him and see whether he’s available or not, as regards what other rides he has in the race, and we’ll go from there.

“He ran a very nice race in Cork (mid-division in the Cork Derby). That should have left him where we need to be.

“He’s at the stage where there’s very few options for him. It did look like a race that we had in mind from a long time ago to go back and have another go at.

“He’s gone up 8lbs in the ratings, it’s plenty, it’s going to be hard but as I say there’s not many opportunities for him, and Galway has been very lucky for John. The race has been in our minds since Christmas.
