Gordon Elliott reports Gerri Colombe to be showing a ‘bit of spark’ and will get an entry for the Fitzdares Fleur De Lys Chase at Windsor on Sunday January 19.

The 165,000 pounds event is the highlight of the three-day Berkshire Winter Million meeting and was won last year, at Lingfield, by L’Homme Presse.

Gerri Colombe hasn’t been seen since a below par effort on his reappearance in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal on November 2, finding no extra after two out when beaten over 13 lengths in third behind Envoi Allen and Hewick.

“He’s going to be entered in Windsor but whether we get him there or not is another thing,” said Elliott.

“He showed me a bit of spark this week which is the first time in a month.

“If I don’t have him until the spring then I’m not going to panic. Let the rest of them race away and we’ll pick our battles.”

Half of his ten career wins have been achieved at Grade 1 level including the William Hill Bowl Chase at Aintree last April having filled the runner-up spot behind Galopin Des Champs the previous month in the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Gerri Colombe is currently a general 12/1 chance to go one better at Cheltenham in March.
