Tony Martin trained his sixth winner of the week at Galway 2013 and Newtown Anner Stud saw their silks carried to victory for the third time (following on from Dark Crusader and Sister Slew) when Woodsophiesmile (5s into 4s) benefited from a lovely Wayne Lordan from behind ride to land the Arthur Guinness Handicap. Snakes And Ladders looked set to give J P McManus and Fran Berry a double (after Hidden Oasis in the first) when heading Janna's Jingle in the straight. However, in an exciting conclusion where five horses had a chance, Woodsophiesmile got up in the last fifty yards and then held the strong finish of New Regalia by a head.
The principal quintet left Corker Hill fifteen lengths behind in sixth.
Martin reflected: "It's magic – brilliant. You couldn't have dreamt of it and the jockey was very cool. I told him to wait and by God he did. She's well-bred and she's worth something to breed off now."
Lordan explained: "I'm delighted to get that. Tony thought she had a good chance at Killarney but things didn't work out for her there.
"Today she put her head down and battled well on ground that is very deep and tacky." (TW & EM)
