Amateur jockey Gerry Mangan is expecting to be out of action for some time having fractured his ankle in a fall at Fairyhouse on Tuesday.

Mangan received his fall from Big Shu at the third last fence in the Joseph O'Reilly Memorial Hunters Chase and was found to have fractured his ankle when taken to Blanchardstown Hospital.

Mangan said "I was operated on at Blanchardstown by surgeon Paddy Kenny and I expect to be in a cast for six weeks. I will be out of action for some time and hope to be back for the Point to Point day at Tipperary in mid-June."

"Things had been going well for me all season but these injuries are part of the business unfortunately."
