Major Power won the Paddy Power Scurry Handicap at 50/1 in determined fashion under Danny Sheehy.
The grey Bated Breath gelding raced prominently from the stalls in this speed test over an extended six furlongs.
He stuck to the stands' side and grabbed the lead from Master Matt as the race unfolded in the final furlong and a half. Hightimeyouwon was a big threat entering the final furlong as he kept finding under Dylan Browne McMonagle, but Major Power came out on the right side of the battle by a head.
Runner-up Hightimeyouwon's SP was 15/2 and he was two lengths in front of 28/1 Grammata who suffered traffic problems on her way to third. Big Gossey completed the placings in fourth at 80/1.
Trainer Eddie Lynam said: “I heard they were all backing the other horse, Rough Diamond (who finished sixth). He ran okay but probably wouldn't be battle hardened.
“It's nice to get and I'm delighted. If he could turn out as good as the one that won it last year (Romantic Proposal) we'd be doing alright, but that might be a bit hopeful.
“I'm delighted to win with him. He was a good horse for the Friday nights at Dundalk.
“I've been moaning to (handicapper) Gary O'Gorman that he's too high on the turf so I'd say his turf rating will go back up to the same as his all-weather rating.”
The Stewards interviewed M.C. Hussey, rider of Big Gossey, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that he was in breach of the regulation and apologised. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were satisfied that M. C. Hussey was in breach of Regulation 10.3.g, excessive frequency. Having considered M.C. Hussey's good record in this regard the Stewards suspended him for one race day. John The Baptist also took the opener on the card at 50/1.
