Magnanimous and Crosse a winning team Shane Crosse secured his first winner since fending off Covid-19 when top-weight Magnanimous came home well in the premier nursery at Listowel. The jockey missed the winning ride on Galileo Chrome in the St Leger at Doncaster due to an enforced period on the sidelines, but was seen to good effect on this winner. San Martino had given it a good go from the front over the mile, but Magnanimous was produced to claim him with 150 yards left. The runner-up kept going but Magnanimous held him by a head. The winner was easy to back at 11/4 from 15/8 while the second placer was returned at 3/1. Assistant trainer Brendan Powell said: "He is a nice horse who is very tough and stays well. He is entitled to go for a Listed race now and is a horse who will train on well next year." Magnanimous was following up on a premier nursery victory under Crosse in Cork earlier in the month.
