Ger Lyons and Colin Keane recorded a quick double at Bellewstown this evening when Harvey Specter landed an on-course gamble.
The gelding had been easy to back this morning touching as big as 20/1. He opened 12/1 on course and after briefly trading 14/1 was punted right into 6/1.
Keane produced his mount to tackle front-runner Palmetto Dunes (3/1 joint-favourite) a furlong-and-a-half from home and he got on top inside the final 200 yards to secure a two-and-three-quarter length win.
The other well supported horse in the race, Yamato (7/1 this morning into 3/1 joint-favourite) finished fourth.
"At Down Royal (finished sixth over ten furlongs) we felt he didn't stay. He travelled well until around a furlong and a half out and Gary (Carroll) said to drop him back,” said Shane Lyons.
"This place is lucky for us and he got a lovely run through. He relished the trip and is very genuine.
“He's a nice big, scopey horse and will do a good job for someone else in October."
