Lyons and Carroll win Dundalk's finale Quick Suzy's jockey Gary Carroll was on the mark at Dundalk today, steering the Ger Lyons trained Flyin Hawaiian to a first success, at the 11th attempt, in the concluding Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Handicap. Carroll missed a Breeders Cup opportunity on his Royal Ascot winner Quick Suzy, which spiked a temperature, last weekend and today bagged a winner with Flyin Hawaiian, scoring by a length and a half from Spirituoso. Jockeys for today's races wore black armbands in honour of Mary Rogers, late wife of trainer Harry Rogers, and Lyons' brother and assistant Shane Lyons later paid tribute, saying “first and foremost our thoughts are with Harry, Christopher and the family of Mary Rogers. “We were deeply saddened by the passing of Mary, she was a lady, and we are all thinking of them.” Regarding Flyin Hawaiian he added “we're delighted to get the win on board with him, we persevered with him. He's been unlucky a few times. The step up in trip has really improved him although the race wasn't run to suit him and he'll be better with an even run race. “He'll be a good fun horse for someone going forward, a dual purpose horse being by Free Eagle. The national hunt boys will like him and he'll be on the market.” Quotes from Gary Carson
