Jockey Johnny Murtagh has had his appeal against a seven day suspension for 'making insufficient effort' on Eddie Lynam´s Dangle reduced to four days, while trainer Lynam has won his appeal against a E750 fine and a 42 day suspension for his horse.
Murtagh partnered Dangle, a two year old filly, into fifth in a maiden at The Curragh on September 21 but the stewards later adjudged Lynam to have used the racecourse as a training ground, while they suspended Murtagh for making insufficient effort.
Murtagh, who will miss Sunday´s Prix de l´Arc be Triumphe, a race where John Oxx´s Alamshar is still a possibility, later stated 'I´m happy its all over.'
Lynam, meanwhile, was cautioned by the stewards who criticised him for being unfamiliar with Rule 148 (i) which deals with a trainer´s responsibility regarding the running and riding of a horse.
Lynam´s evidence at the original inquiry differed from evidence he gave to the Turf Club´s Referrals Committee, although Lynam later explained 'I stood by Johnny in the stewards´ room on the day but today I was asked for a yes or no answer on his ride and I was really between a rock and a hard place.'
Lynam added 'as far as I´m concerned Johnny did nothing wrong. Things just didn´t work out for him and the filly during the race.'
