Longshadow a good winner at Wexford We had a well-bred winner of the Black Point Handicap last year in Time Of My Life and he generated plenty of column inches in the aftermath. The 2013 victor of the near mile and a half contest, Longshadow has an eye-catching pedigree too and whilst subject to nothing like the same gamble as twelve months ago, Patrick Prendergast's scorer didn't go unbacked returning at odds of 4/1. A son of the great Monsun (now deceased) and a half-brother to a Group 1 winner in Lady Marian, Longshadow benefitted from an excellent Declan McDonogh ride. Soon in the 'box seat' on a horse bound to stay well, McDonogh let the big chestnut roll from around three furlongs out and he stayed on well from over a furlong out to beat Longdock by three and a half lengths. Prendergast commented: "Declan said you could run him up a motorway! It's unusual for a Monsun but he likes fast ground. "His last run was much improved and he'll make a lovely hurdle horse – he'd jump out of jail!" Sweet Refusal, the second favourite, finished an unlucky in running fourth. (DM & EM)
