War Front colt Long Island Sound make a good first impression when staying on strongly to land Dundalk's mile maiden for three-year-olds.

He was pushed along in fifth by Seamie Heffernan with just over three furlongs to travel but made good headway inside the two pole. His relentless progress continued as he picked up the lead approaching the final furlong.

He was soon ridden and forged on well in the latter stages to score by two and a half lengths for trainer Aidan O'Brien at 10/3.

Although he was easy to back during the day, punters came for him at the track supporting him down from 4/1. Zilbiyr the 2/1 favourite from 9/2 in the morning, finished his race off well to take second without threatening the winner.

He was half a length ahead of Raconteur at 16/1 on debut for Willie McCreery.

Seamie Heffernan said: "A lot of ours will improve a lot from their first run and hopefully he will improve a lot.

“When the penny dropped he did it well. He has plenty of strength about him and will probably stay further than a mile.”

Long Island Sound is out of a half sister to champion US mare Zenyatta.
