Loads of Irish interest in the UK this afternoon

A total of fourteen Irish trained horses go in search of glory in the UK this afternoon with eight at Fakenham and six on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

Three of them go to post for the opening maiden hurdle at Fakenham which is due off at 1:00.

Usa for Steve Mahon, Busyasabee for Anthony Costello and Our Ollie for Paul Gilligan are the three in question.

The trio will have to improve on what they have shown to date if they are to have any chance with point-to-point winner Jimbill the stand out name for his trainer Tim Vaughan with Richard Johnson aboard.

One hour later at 2:00 Gilligan sends out his second of his five runners in the shape of Cottage Flyer in a 2m 5f Handicap Chase.

Having won over the course on his penultimate start the 6yo gelding is not without his chance today in what looks an open contest.

Runner No 3 for Gilligan comes half an hour later with Romantic Lead flying the flag for the Co Galway based trainer in a handicap hurdle over 2m 7f.

This fellow has some eye-catching form to his name but has been out of sorts lately and will need to recapture old promise if he is to feature here.

Steve Mahon also has a runner in this contest in the shape of Que Beauty.

This filly by Val Royal has yet to win on twenty-two career starts but is capable of running into a place carrying a low weight with Peter Carberry aboard.

Not much can be said about Gilligan's runner, Lord Hear Us, in the three mile beginners chase at 3:00.

The 7yo son of Imperial Ballet has shown nothing on his two starts to date to suggest he will win but facing just three rivals here anything could happen.

Gilligan runs newcomer Roving Lad in the final race on the card a novice hurdle over 2m 4f and this fellow will have to be fairly useful if he is to win this, with the former Dermot Weld trained Sublime Talent the stand out name in the field.

A list of the six Irish trained runners at Wolverhampton can be obtained by clicking on the 'Irish Runners in the UK' tab on the homepage.

Money for or lack of should guide you in the direction of whether any of them are fancied or not.
