Some will dream of getting the lotto up tonight but for anyone faithful to the green and gold this Saturday afternoon, a J P McManus six-timer came in at odds of 308,208/1. Barrington Court was the last of the sextet, in the Listed Naas Racecourse Business Club Finale Stakes.
With stable jockey Shane Foley on Breeders’ Cup duty at Keeneland, Tom ‘Socks’ Madden got the chance on Jessica Harrington’s Barrington Court, and the 11/8 favourite delivered convincingly by two and a half lengths from Bolivar
It didn’t always look like it would come so easy for the progressive Mastercraftsman mare, as she raced towards the rear and was switched left and made progress two and a half furlongs out.
She soon went sixth and was pushed along. Ridden to lead a furlong out Barrington Court stayed on strongly in the final furlong to put a seal on the near mile and a half event.
In addition to De Name Escapes Me (10/1) on this card earlier, there were McManus winners at Aintree, Canelo (10/1), Unowhatimeanharry (12/1) and Modus (13/2).
The Ben Haslam-trained Rock On Fruity chipped in with a 10/1 win at Kelso.
“She’s a good mare and stepped up from her last run again. It was still a Listed race but on ratings it looked a tougher race. She’s very progressive and doing things right,” said Madden.
“She has a good turn of foot but I was never in doubt. They went a nice even gallop and I was always going well.”
Sam Ewing, rider of Starlight Dream trained by Matthew J. Smith, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped very quickly.
