Blue-blooded Wingspan gained a first black-type success today as the Aidan O'Brien-trained filly landed Gowran's featured Listed Darley Irish EBF Hurry Harriet Stakes, under jockey Wayne Lordan.
Dubawi-sired and out of dual Group 1 winner Hydrangea, Wingspan (13/2 — 4/1) was held up behind the leaders and having improved to lead a furlong out, stayed on well to hold One Look by three-parts of a length.
O'Brien's representative Chris Armstrong said “she won at Leopardstown on debut and then backed up quickly in Navan so Aidan gave her a break. Obviously she impressed at Leopardstown but things just didn't happen for her at Navan, it came three weeks after and maybe was a bit too quick.
“There was nothing wrong with her and she strengthened up an awful lot physically. You can see that in her there today.”
He added “Wayne was very happy with her and thinks she's versatile trip-wise, in around a mile-and-a-quarter. He gave her a lovely ride. She's won on heavy ground and won on good here today.
“She has a massive pedigree, it's nice to get that with her and she'll probably go for the Blandford Stakes on Champions Weekend now.
“Fitness-wise, she was just ready to start so she's going to come on an awful lot.”
