Lightening start at Naas from Tenebrism

Tenebrism (7/2 favourite) was an impressive three and three parts of a length scorer in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Naas to get first season sire Caravaggio off the mark. Gaire Os Ard (2nd) looked like she might have done enough in the final furlong but those thinking that way hadn’t bargained for the impressive finishing rattle that was produced by Ballydoyle’s Tenebrism.

The change of gear displayed in the final furlong, to come from off the pace to a winning position, was only in keeping with the victor’s breeding, as she’s a daughter of a Group One mare in Immortal Verse.

Immortal Verse was by Pivotal, and perhaps it shouldn’t be that surprising then, that Tenebrism was able to cope with the testing surface here. Lord Gorgeous the third placer, was two and three parts of a length back.

Seamie Heffernan did the steering and trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “She was always very natural from day one and she’s able to quicken up very well which is what the dad was able to do. You would have to be very happy with her. It’s her first day away.

“She’s smart and we can look at all those quick races for her.”
