Pat Smullen rode his second winner of the night as he galvanised Dermot Weld's Montjeu filly Late Day Sun to a head victory over Poinsettia after the two had fought a ding-dong battle in the final furlong of the one mile fillies' maiden at Dundalk.
This was Late Day Sun's second racecourse appearance after finishing fifth in a six furlong Naas maiden. She went off at an eyecatching 14/1. Roman Flame the 11/4 favourite for Paul Deegan, came home in third place. Secret Story was fourth. The first four pulled clear of the remainder at the finish.
Pat Smullen moved seven winners clear of Johnny Murtagh in the race for the jockeys' championship after this success.
