Lalipour (25/1) foiled a punt on the favourite in the second split of the mile and five handicap at Navan.

You couldn't have called him an obvious winner as the field turned for home with Chris Hayes beginning to exert his arms on the gelding who raced in rear.

He began to pick up inside the three, though, and was ridden into fourth at the furlong pole.

The four-year-old gelding kept going along the rail and pounced on Aasleagh Fawn close home to get up by half a length.

The runner-up was the well backed 10/3 favourite and traded as short as 1.01 in the closing stages. Allora Yeats completed the places a further length and a quarter away in third at 16/1.

Gordon Elliott said: “I'd say the track suited him, as it's a big galloping track.

“It's nice to get a winner for James Power, he's a good owner. He's a horse that could go hurdling again.”
