Laganbank looks a name to note this winter after taking the South West Bins Novice Hurdle in great style under Ruby Walsh.
The Willie Mullins-trained gelding completed a hat-trick here in very taking fashion, cruising up to challenge at the second last and then striking the front at the final flight.
The five-year-old just needed to be shaken up by Walsh to get the better of fellow 7/4 joint favourite Alderwood by a length as the pair pulled 15 lengths clear of the remainder.
Mullins said, “It was a tactical race and Ruby didn't want to get into a battle with Alderwood who we know stays well. I was a bit worried about the ground beforehand but he's a much stronger horse this year and seems to handle it much better.
“There is a race at Tipperary in a few weeks but that may come a bit too soon, and his main target is probably the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse. He shows alot at home and has the size and scope to improve.”
Ruby Walsh was also impressed saying, “He's an exciting horse for the future. He's settling much better and will make a nice chaser in time.”
