The Joseph O'Brien trained Lady With The Lamp stayed on strongly under Declan McDonogh to win the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cork Stakes at the Mallow venue.

A shock 66/1 winner of a similar grade race at Dundalk in October, the three-year-old was again amongst the outsiders here, sent off 28/1.

Held up last of the eight strong field at halfway, McDonogh switched his mount to the far side to throw down a challenge to long time leader Vespertilio two furlongs out.

Ridden to lead over a furlong from home, Lady With The Lamp led 150 yards out before staying on to score by half-a-length.

Winning owner Kevin Blake reported: "She had a penalty but it was a good starting point. We had been thinking about the Polonia Stakes back here in May or the Chelmer (Stakes, at Chelmsford city) but we'll have to see now.

"She doesn't get any credit and was a giant price again today, but has beaten good fillies and colts. I know it wasn't her day as such, but she went off at a big price. She had done well physically and mentally and seems to be growing up.

"You'd love to think she could run in the Commonwealth Cup, if you were going to go mad, but she has won two Listed races now."

He added "myself Emma (Palmer), Michael (Wilson) and Nick (Luck) are all pals and at the sales, Michael half head-locked Nick into buying the horse.

"They get a real kick out of it and she has been a dream filly for her purchase price."
