Conditional jockey Geoff Lake was taken to North Tees General Hospital after being injured in a bad fall on Tiger Talk at Sedgefield today.
Tiger Talk had moved into second place in the betsmart.co.uk Novices` Hurdle division two when he jumped badly to the right at the second last flight unseating Lake.
His foot appeared to be caught in a stirrup and as a result, as he fell, he pulled the gelding down on top of him.
Things were made worse for the fallen horse and rider when they were cannoned into by Red Rampage ridden by Richard Guest. They came down too, but fortunately escaped unscathed.
Lake was attended for several minutes by paramedics before being stretchered into an ambulance to be taken to hospital.
A course spokesman said: 'The jockey has shoulder, lower chest and abdominal injuries. He is in a bit of pain in the abdominal area which suggests he may have internal injuries.'
